Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is seeking a passionate Data Scientist to join its Global Research and Data Science (GRDS) team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to drive technical innovation in global development by applying cutting-edge data science techniques. You’ll collaborate with a diverse, international team to transform complex data into actionable insights using tools such as Python, SQL, and cloud computing platforms. Key Responsibilities:
- Data Science Development:
- Build and maintain SQL and Python data models for research projects.
- Develop custom code and solutions for data analysis and software development.
- Review and test code to ensure quality and functionality.
- Technical Assistance:
- Provide direct technical support for IPA research projects.
- Collaborate with IPA country offices and global teams to plan, implement, and complete research initiatives.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Present analysis and updates to internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide regular updates on the progress of projects and data science products.
- Research Contributions:
- Develop resources to support project management for research initiatives.
- Apply advanced techniques like machine learning and natural language processing (NLP).
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in data science or data engineering.
- 1+ years of experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and version control systems like Git.
- Familiarity with integrating data sources using APIs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and respect for diversity in multicultural environments.
Preferred:
- Experience with NLP techniques and large language models (LLMs).
- Knowledge of data engineering tools like dbt, SQLMesh, or dlt.
- Familiarity with econometrics tools (R, Stata) and research standards.
- Experience with international development organizations.
- Proficiency in an additional language (Spanish, French, or Swahili).
Work Model: Hybrid, with occasional international travel (1–2 times per year).
