Job Description

Miva Open University is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to manage financial operations, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and provide strategic insights through accurate reporting. This role requires a results-driven professional with deep expertise in accounting practices, strong analytical skills, and the ability to lead financial processes effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain general ledger entries with timely monthly reconciliations.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements in compliance with IFRS and Nigerian GAAP.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Ensure accurate accounting of receivables, payables, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Manage the fixed asset register and support periodic asset verification.
  • Ensure statutory compliance, including VAT, PAYE, WHT, pension, and liaising with regulatory bodies.
  • Support audits by preparing schedules and providing responses to auditor inquiries.
  • Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience, including at least 3 years in a senior or supervisory role.
  • Professional certification (ICAN or ACCA) is mandatory.
  • Strong understanding of Nigerian tax laws, IFRS, and statutory reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Zoho Books is an advantage.
  • Background in EdTech, SaaS, or technology-driven businesses is a plus.
  • High integrity, strong attention to detail, and excellent problem-solving abilities.
