Job Description

A reputable law firm is seeking an experienced Litigation Associate with strong civil litigation exposure to join its legal team. This role is suited to a proactive and detail-oriented lawyer with the ability to handle matters independently, support senior counsel, and thrive in a fast-paced legal environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent clients before courts, tribunals, and alternative dispute resolution forums
  • Prepare, review, and file court processes including pleadings, motions, affidavits, and written addresses
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and provide well-reasoned legal opinions
  • Attend hearings, trials, mediations, negotiations, and settlement discussions
  • Manage litigation files, monitor timelines, and ensure compliance with court rules and procedures
  • Liaise with clients, external counsel, government agencies, and relevant stakeholders
  • Draft and review contracts, agreements, and other legal documents as required
  • Support senior counsel with case strategy, risk assessment, and major litigation matters
  • Provide regular case updates and reports to management and clients

Qualifications and Requirements

  • LL.B. from a recognized university and called to the Nigerian Bar
  • 4–7 years of post-call experience in active litigation practice
  • Strong advocacy, oral presentation, and courtroom skills
  • Excellent legal drafting, writing, and research abilities
  • Sound knowledge of civil procedure, evidence, and court processes
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple cases
  • High attention to detail and strong professional ethics
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal research tools
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Practical experience across both Federal and State High Courts
  • Ability to commute freely within Lagos State
  • Capacity to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
