Job Description

A reputable microfinance institution is seeking an experienced Head of Internal Control and Audit to provide leadership across internal control, audit, and risk management functions. This role is responsible for safeguarding assets, ensuring regulatory compliance, and strengthening internal control frameworks through effective oversight and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily bank transaction reviews and audit processes to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Conduct customer verification checks and internal staff control assessments
  • Investigate discrepancies, cash suppression, and suspected fraud cases
  • Implement, monitor, and continuously improve internal control systems
  • Ensure adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements
  • Prepare and submit detailed audit reports and control activity findings
  • Supervise, guide, and mentor internal control and audit team members
  • Identify operational and financial risks and develop mitigation strategies

Requirements

  • HND or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • Professional certification such as ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent is an added advantage
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in internal control and audit, preferably within a microfinance institution or financial services environment
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and leadership abilities
  • Proficiency in audit tools, MS Office applications, and financial reporting systems
