Job Description

A remote healthcare organization is seeking a detail-oriented and solutions-focused Billing Coordinator with strong experience in behavioral or mental health billing. This role is responsible for managing end-to-end billing processes, ensuring compliance with payer regulations, reducing claim denials, and supporting accurate revenue cycle operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and submit claims for mental health and medical services to insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, and private payers
  • Monitor, track, and resolve outstanding claims, denials, and reimbursements
  • Conduct insurance eligibility checks and benefits verification
  • Perform follow-ups on unpaid or underpaid claims and manage appeals efficiently
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CMS, and federal/state billing regulations
  • Collaborate with clinicians and administrative teams to resolve billing discrepancies and documentation gaps
  • Generate patient invoices and manage payment plans where applicable
  • Maintain accurate documentation within billing systems and EHR platforms
  • Identify recurring billing issues and recommend process improvements
  • Stay updated on payer rules, coding standards, and industry changes

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, IT, Communications, Social Work, Business Administration, or Medical Billing & Claims Processing
  • Minimum of 3 years’ billing experience in a mental health, behavioral health, or healthcare setting
  • Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) is an added advantage
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive)
  • Hands-on experience with EMR/EHR systems such as DrChrono, AdvancedMD, Athenahealth, or similar platforms
  • Strong understanding of payer systems, CPT codes, modifiers, and documentation requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced Excel skills preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and perform under pressure
  • Reliable internet connection and personal laptop are mandatory
  • Call center or healthcare support experience is a plus (training provided)

Shift: 8-hour standard shift between 8:00am EST – 10:00pm EST (2:00pm – 4:00am WAT)
Primary shift: 8:00am – 4:30pm EST (2:00pm – 10:30pm WAT), based on company needs
