Job Description

Bludive Technologies is seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Expert-level Database Administrator to design, implement, secure, and support mission-critical database environments across both Oracle and PostgreSQL platforms. The successful candidate will serve as the senior technical authority for database architecture, performance, high availability, disaster recovery, and security across the organization’s production, test, and development estates, providing 24×7 operational support for business-critical systems in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.

 

Salary: ₦1,200,000 – ₦1,800,000 net

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, tune, and support enterprise Oracle (11g/12c/19c/21c) and PostgreSQL (12–16) databases across production, DR, UAT, and development environments.
  • Design and implement high-availability and disaster recovery architectures, including Oracle RAC, Data Guard, and PostgreSQL streaming/logical replication etc.
  • Lead database performance tuning and capacity planning, including SQL/query optimization, indexing strategy, execution plan analysis, and workload/resource management.
  • Own backup, recovery, and business continuity processes (RMAN for Oracle; pg_dump/pg_basebackup/WAL archiving/barman or pgBackRest for PostgreSQL), including regular DR testing and documented RTO/RPO compliance.
  • Plan and execute database upgrades, patching (CPU/PSU), migrations, and platform/version consolidations with minimal downtime. • Implement and enforce database security controls: user/role administration, privilege management, encryption (TDE, SSL/TLS), auditing, and compliance with internal and regulatory standards (e.g., PCI-DSS, data protection regulations).
  • Lead or support database migration and modernization initiatives, including Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migrations and cloud/on-prem database platform transitions.
  • Provide senior-level troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for critical incidents, including participation in an on-call/escalation rotation for production support.
  • Automate routine DBA tasks and monitoring using scripting (Shell, Python, PL/SQL, PL/pgSQL) and enterprise monitoring tools.
  • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation: architecture diagrams, standard operating procedures, runbooks, and configuration standards.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level DBAs, and act as a technical escalation point and subject-matter expert for application and infrastructure teams.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, application, security, and vendor teams (including OEM/Oracle and opensource support partners) on capacity, licensing, and architecture decisions.  

 

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent demonstrable experience).
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive hands-on DBA experience, with at least 4 years each on Oracle and PostgreSQL in enterprise production environments.
  • Proven expertise in Oracle architecture, RAC, ASM, Data Guard, RMAN backup/recovery, and performance tuning (AWR/ADDM/SQL Tuning Advisor).
  • Proven expertise in PostgreSQL architecture, replication (streaming/logical), connection pooling (PgBouncer/pgpool-II), and performance tuning.
  • Strong working knowledge of Linux/Unix (including AIX and/or RHEL) server administration as it relates to database operations.
  • Solid understanding of SQL and PL/SQL / PL/pgSQL development, including stored procedures, triggers, and packages.
  • Experience with database security hardening, encryption, auditing, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Experience in database migration/upgrade projects and cross-platform data migration (Oracle ↔ PostgreSQL is highly desirable).
  • Familiarity with cloud database services (e.g., Azure Database, OCI) and/or containerized database deployments is an advantage.
  • Experience working within a banking, financial services, or other highly regulated industry is strongly preferred.  

 

Preferred Certifications

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) — Database Administrator.
  • EDB or PostgreSQL professional certification (e.g., EDB Certified Associate/Professional).
  • ITIL Foundation certification (advantageous, given the incident/change management context).

  • Ability to work independently as well as lead and mentor within a team, including flexibility for oncall/after-hours support.
