Job Description

A reputable organization in the oil and gas sector is seeking an experienced Contracts Engineer / Administrator to manage, administer, and support all contractual and commercial aspects of projects. The role requires strong expertise in contract management, variation control, claims support, and compliance with HSSE and QA/QC standards, particularly within offshore project environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage contractual matters between company and contractors using a structured and systematic approach.
  • Prepare, review, and issue commercial and contractual correspondence throughout project execution.
  • Maintain accurate tracking systems for all contractual communications and documentation.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive contract records, including site instructions, change requests, variations (actual and forecast), and supporting reports.
  • Liaise with Project Managers to prepare, negotiate, and execute variation orders with clients and subcontractors.
  • Provide contractual and commercial advice to the project management team.
  • Support preparation of client invoices in line with contract terms and follow up to ensure timely payment.
  • Attend weekly progress meetings and ensure meeting minutes accurately reflect discussions and decisions.
  • Review contractor monthly progress reports prior to submission to clients.
  • Assist in evaluating contractual claims, financial settlements, and final accounts.
  • Support insurance claims, vendor back charges, and matters relating to loss or damage.
  • Monitor company-issued equipment, materials, and technical information to clients and subcontractors, including the contractual impact of late or early delivery.

HSSE Responsibilities

  • Promote and comply with company HSSE policies and standards.
  • Support communication and understanding of client safety requirements during tenders and project execution.
  • Provide safety leadership in contract-related activities.
  • Perform duties with due regard for health, safety, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance.

QA/QC Responsibilities

  • Adhere to company quality policies, procedures, and ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
  • Work within the Quality Assurance system and relevant Quality Management Plans.
  • Mentor team members on quality principles and compliance requirements.
  • Communicate effectively to ensure quality objectives are met during project execution.

Key Requirements

  • Degree in LL.B., BA, BSc, MSc, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in contract management within the oil and gas industry.
  • Strong knowledge of legal interpretation of project-related contracts, including liability and insurance regimes.
  • Membership of RICS, NIOS, NSE, or an equivalent professional body.
  • Experience in Nigerian offshore oil and gas projects is strongly preferred.
  • Proven negotiation, planning, coordination, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing deadlines.
  • Strong leadership, commercial acumen, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good understanding of marine and offshore contracting agreements and HSSE/QAQC standards.
