Credit Underwriter at Assets Microfinance Bank

Job Description

Assets Microfinance Bank is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Credit Underwriter to assess, evaluate, and approve customer credit applications. This role involves credit risk assessment, financial analysis, compliance with credit policies, and ensuring proper documentation for loan approvals within the microfinance and SME lending space.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and analyze the creditworthiness of prospective customers using established risk assessment criteria.
• Evaluate financial and quantitative details in credit applications to support objective, data-driven credit decisions.
• Assess credit facility applications, identify deviations from credit policy, and highlight quality assurance issues in proposals received from business units.
• Perform departmental functions such as loan covenant monitoring, risk rating, audit preparation, and loan recovery as assigned by the Head of Department.
• Communicate required amendments on credit applications to relevant business units for correction and resubmission.
• Ensure all credit approvals, KYC documentation, and legal requirements are properly executed and the institution’s interests are adequately protected.
• Conduct credit searches using credit bureau databases (CRS and CRC reports).
• Carry out email verification and prepare transaction consummation reports.
• Review transactions against final checklists prior to approval and disbursement.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Banking & Finance, Marketing, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in credit underwriting and loan disbursement within a Digital Lender or Microfinance Bank.
• Strong knowledge of micro-credit and SME loan products, policies, and lending procedures.
• Excellent analytical, numerical, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong communication, logical reasoning, and presentation abilities.
