Job Description

An international education organization is seeking a Director, Policy & Partnerships (Africa) to lead the development of high-level government relationships and secure transformative education system partnerships across Africa. The role involves working with senior government officials to close statewide and nationwide reform agreements that drive measurable improvements in public education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, engage, and build relationships with top-level government officials across Africa to develop new statewide and nationwide education partnerships.
  • Lead the entire partnership development cycle, from generating leads to closing large, multi-year government contracts.
  • Deliver compelling presentations and negotiations that communicate both the strategic vision and operational details of large-scale system transformation.
  • Analyze local political, social, and educational contexts to tailor proposals that meet each government’s unique goals and priorities.
  • Transition signed partnerships into operational implementation, ensuring smooth handover to delivery teams.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in business development or consultative sales for large-scale government contracts across multiple African countries.
  • Proven ability to work with national and regional governments, navigating political and bureaucratic structures.
  • Strong track record in leading complex, multi-year contract negotiations and closing deals.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence senior political leaders.
  • Politically astute, with an understanding of how education partnerships intersect with national and regional priorities.
  • Exposure to international development agencies (e.g. World Bank, USAID, FCDO) is an advantage.
  • Background in primary or secondary education is a plus, but the ability to learn new industries quickly is essential.
