Job Description

The Head, Merchant Services will oversee strategy, operations, and growth of the merchant acquiring and servicing business. The role requires strong leadership in expanding merchant acquisition, optimizing product offerings, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and implement strategies to drive merchant acquisition, onboarding, activation, and revenue growth.
  • Develop and manage partnerships with stakeholders in retail, e-commerce, hospitality, logistics, and other sectors.
  • Collaborate with technology and product teams to deliver innovative payment solutions such as POS, QR, SoftPOS, and online payments.
  • Lead, coach, and manage a high-performing team in sales, account management, and support operations.
  • Ensure compliance with CBN, KYC, AML, and other regulatory requirements in merchant onboarding and transactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, Economics, or related field (MBA or advanced degree is an advantage).
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in fintech, banking, or payments, including at least 2 years in a leadership role (post-NYSC).
  • Strong knowledge of POS, online payments, settlement processes, and merchant APIs.
  • Proven success in merchant acquisition, payment processing strategy, and stakeholder management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with the Nigerian merchant ecosystem (SMEs, retail, e-commerce) and emerging payment technologies such as QR, SoftPOS, and tap-to-pay.
