Job Description

Wells Accounting and Tax Services is seeking a highly experienced Head of Account to lead the accounting function within a manufacturing-focused environment. This senior finance role is responsible for driving accurate financial reporting, enforcing strong internal controls, and strengthening process discipline across a multi-bank, multi-currency operation. The ideal candidate is a hands-on finance leader with deep manufacturing accounting experience and strong ERP expertise.

Location: Lekki, Lagos (with regular travel to Makun, Ogun State)

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Accounting

  • Oversee inventory accounting for raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods
  • Manage cost accounting across production stages
  • Monitor production costs, variances, and profitability per ton
  • Coordinate and supervise monthly physical stock counts

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Implement and enforce strong internal controls and approval workflows
  • Ensure three-way matching for vendor payments (PO–GRN–Invoice)
  • Maintain segregation of duties and audit-ready documentation
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, CAMA, and FRCN requirements

ERP & Systems (Odoo)

  • Ensure 100% same-day transaction posting
  • Maintain ERP data integrity and chart of accounts
  • Review journal entries and conduct periodic data audits
  • Train and supervise the finance team on ERP best practices

Reporting & Close

  • Lead month-end close within five working days
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and variance analysis
  • Support external and internal audits and respond to audit queries
  • Prepare board, lender, and executive financial reports

Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team
  • Drive accountability, discipline, and continuous improvement

Key Performance Indicators

  • Month-end close: ≤ 5 working days
  • Same-day ERP posting: 100%
  • Account reconciliations: 100% monthly
  • High-risk control issues: Zero
  • Management accounts: Zero material errors
  • Stock variance: < 2%

Key Requirements

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (minimum 2:1)
  • ACA, ACCA, or CPA (mandatory)
  • MBA or Master’s degree (advantage)

Experience

  • 8–12 years of accounting experience
  • Minimum of 5 years in manufacturing or production environments
  • Minimum of 3 years in senior accounting or finance leadership roles
  • Strong internal controls and ERP experience (Odoo preferred)
  • Audit background from a Big 4 or reputable firm (advantage)
  • Experience working in multi-currency and multi-entity environments

Technical Skills

  • Manufacturing cost accounting and variance analysis
  • IFRS financial reporting
  • ERP systems such as Odoo, SAP, Oracle, or similar
  • Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills

Soft Skills

  • Strong leadership and people management capability
  • High attention to detail and process discipline
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Clear communication and sound professional judgment
