Job Description
Northwest Petroleum & Gas Company Limited is seeking a highly experienced Legal Officer to support its legal, regulatory, and compliance functions. This role is suited to a detail-oriented legal professional with strong corporate, litigation, and regulatory experience, particularly within regulated industries such as oil and gas.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide internal legal advisory support on matters relating to the company’s operations and business activities.
- Assist with dispute resolution processes, negotiations, and litigation matters under supervision.
- Support corporate governance and regulatory compliance to ensure adherence to applicable laws and industry regulations.
- Prepare, review, and monitor company-wide legal and compliance checklists.
- Support corporate, litigation, and regulatory activities including CAC annual returns regularization, court appearances, legal searches, and title perfection processes at relevant land registries.
- Act as a liaison with external legal counsel to follow up on litigations and ensure timely resolution.
- Assist with contract lifecycle management, including drafting, vetting, negotiation, execution, and documentation of agreements.
- Maintain proper filing and documentation of executed contracts and corporate records.
- Support the preparation of board resolutions, meeting schedules, extracts of minutes, and related governance documents.
Qualifications and Requirements
- LL.B and BL degrees with a minimum of Second Class Upper Division.
- Minimum of 8 years post-call experience, including at least 3 years in a law firm.
- Prior experience in the oil and gas sector is an added advantage.
- Strong legal research, drafting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience engaging with government agencies, maritime authorities, and local content regulatory bodies.
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills for internal and external engagements.
- High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and proactive work ethic.
