Job Description
The Public Relations Specialist role is a strategic external contractor position responsible for elevating the organisation’s brand visibility and increasing public awareness of the importance of literacy. This position requires strong media expertise, quick responsiveness, and the ability to deliver impactful communications on a global scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and distribute high-volume media releases through Meltwater’s international distribution service.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to produce accurate, engaging, and timely media content.
- Manage and nurture media relationships, ensuring consistent and positive coverage of initiatives.
- Respond to journalist inquiries promptly and coordinate interviews with designated spokespersons.
- Drive proactive media campaigns, balancing multiple deadlines and maintaining strong messaging.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- At least 3 years’ proven experience in public relations, media relations, or communications.
- Excellent writing and research skills with the ability to craft persuasive communications.
- Demonstrated ability to secure media opportunities and pitch compelling stories.
- Strong judgement in handling sensitive matters and delivering strategic advice.
- Solid organisational and administrative skills.
Role Details
- Contract type: Full-time external contractor (not an employee role).
- Work arrangement: Three days onsite at Workcity Coworking Africa, Polystar Tower, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos; two days remote.
- Salary: ₦320,000 – ₦350,000 per month. No additional benefits.
Location: Lekki Phase 1, Lagos (Hybrid: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
