Job Description

Golden Penny Foods (a subsidiary of Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc) is seeking a highly experienced Senior Manager, General Ledger to lead financial reporting and general ledger operations across its Food and Sugar verticals. This senior leadership role is responsible for driving timely month-end closes, delivering audit-ready financials, and ensuring full IFRS compliance across multiple entities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the month-end close calendar across Food and Sugar vertical entities, ensuring delivery within approved timelines (3 working days).
  • Champion high-standard balance sheet reconciliation reviews to ensure 100% completion of timely, high-quality reconciliations with zero long-standing reconciling items and full substantiation of all accounts.
  • Maintain full visibility and control over prepayments, accruals, provisions, and other significant financial statement line items, highlighting risks and opportunities for strategic decision-making.
  • Direct and oversee interim and year-end audit processes, ensuring strict adherence to audit timelines and achieving zero post-closing adjustments through strong financial accuracy and robust internal controls.
  • Lead the preparation and timely filing of quarterly and year-end financial statements and consolidations for all entities in the Food and Sugar verticals, ensuring full compliance with statutory and regulatory reporting requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • First degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or Finance is an added advantage.
  • 8–10 years of relevant experience in accounting and financial reporting within a structured corporate environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of IFRS and internal control frameworks.
  • Professional certification such as ACA or ACCA is required.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in general ledger management, including month-end and year-end close processes, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Strong technical accounting expertise, including IFRS application, chart of accounts management, and review of complex accounting entries to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring capability in managing and developing teams of General Ledger Managers.
  • Expert-level proficiency in ERP systems and advanced financial reporting tools for ledger control, variance analysis, and group consolidations.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
