Job Description

Premiere Urgence Internationale (PUI) is seeking a qualified Finance Officer to support financial management, accounting processes, cash management, and financial reporting activities at its Pulka base in Borno State. The successful candidate will assist the Finance Manager in ensuring accurate financial records, compliance with organizational procedures, and effective treasury operations.

Key Responsibilities

Treasury and Cash Management

  • Monitor petty cash management and verify daily cash balances.
  • Prepare weekly cash forecasts and cash requests for base operations.
  • Ensure sufficient cash availability and report any discrepancies promptly.
  • Monitor contract payment deadlines and follow up on regular payments.
  • Maintain the security of cash and confidentiality of financial information.

Financial and Accounting Operations

  • Review invoices and financial documents to ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Record bank transactions accurately and maintain updated accounting records.
  • Prepare monthly accounting closures and support budget monitoring activities.
  • Conduct monthly bank reconciliations and prepare financial forecasts.
  • Ensure proper filing and archiving of financial documents in line with donor requirements.
  • Prepare withholding tax reports and collect VAT exemption invoices.

Reporting and Compliance

  • Consolidate and verify accounting data from the base office.
  • Support external audits, donor visits, and financial reviews.
  • Prepare annual financial closing documents and related reports.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with financial regulations and internal controls.

Team Support

  • Supervise and coordinate daily activities of finance team members.
  • Assist with staff performance evaluations and objective setting.
  • Support recruitment processes for finance staff when required.
  • Ensure compliance with PUI policies, procedures, and financial guidelines.

Job Requirements

  • A University Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar finance or accounting role within NGOs or private organizations.
  • Fluency in English and Hausa; knowledge of any Gwoza dialect is an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and financial management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong teamwork, initiative, and adaptability skills.
