Job Description

A firm is seeking a Junior Port Operations Officer to support the smooth coordination of vessel and port activities. The ideal candidate should have experience in a shipping company and practical knowledge of vessel operations, crew changes, husbandry services, and customs procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support vessel berthing and port call activities.
  • Assist with crew change arrangements, including documentation and logistics.
  • Coordinate husbandry services such as provisions, spares, transportation, and other vessel requirements.
  • Liaise with NPA, NIMASA, Customs, terminals, immigration, and other relevant authorities.
  • Prepare and process port, vessel, and customs documentation.
  • Monitor vessel arrival, berthing, operations, and departure schedules.
  • Communicate with ship masters, agents, terminals, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure port operations are carried out efficiently and in line with applicable regulations.
  • Prepare operational reports and maintain accurate records.

 

Key Requirements

  • B.Sc./HND in Maritime Studies, Shipping & Port Management, Transport Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years’ experience in port/shipping operations.
  • Experience working with a shipping company or maritime agency is highly preferred.
  • Practical experience in vessel berthing, crew change, husbandry, and customs handling.
  • Good knowledge of Nigerian port operations and relevant maritime procedures.
  • Strong communication, coordination, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond to vessel/port operational requirements.
