Job Description

Essence Crop Science Nigeria FZE is seeking a skilled Chinese Translator to facilitate clear and accurate communication between Mandarin-speaking and English-speaking employees, clients, management, and business partners. The role involves both written translation and verbal interpretation across meetings, business discussions, training sessions, and other professional engagements.

Location: Ibeju Lekki, Lagos

Key Responsibilities

• Translate documents, emails, reports, contracts, manuals, presentations, and other business materials between Mandarin Chinese and English.
• Provide consecutive interpretation during meetings, business discussions, site visits, training sessions, and other professional engagements.
• Facilitate effective communication between Chinese-speaking and English-speaking employees, clients, management, and business partners.
• Ensure all translations are accurate, clear, culturally appropriate, and consistent with the intended meaning.
• Review and proofread translated materials for grammar, terminology, consistency, and accuracy.
• Assist with preparing bilingual documents, presentations, correspondence, and other business materials.
• Maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive company, employee, and client information.
• Support management and other departments with translation and interpretation requirements.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese, Translation, Linguistics, Languages, or a related field is preferred.
• Fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English, both written and spoken.
• Strong understanding of Chinese and English grammar, vocabulary, and business terminology.
• Previous experience as a translator, interpreter, or in a similar position is an advantage.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate work under pressure.
• Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
• Good organizational and time-management skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with Chinese companies, Chinese-speaking clients, or multicultural teams.
• Knowledge of industry-specific terminology relevant to the organization.
• Ability to read and write Simplified Chinese; knowledge of Traditional Chinese is an added advantage.
• Experience using translation software or Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools is an advantage.
