Job Description

A fintech organisation is seeking a Product Auditor to provide independent assurance over the design, implementation, and effectiveness of product controls across payment, wallet, settlement, switch, and related products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a risk-based Product Audit Universe covering payment products, features, and integrations.
  • Review product requirements, business rules, transaction workflows, and exception-handling processes to identify control gaps before go-live.
  • Conduct pre-production product audits and provide independent control assessments for material releases.
  • Assess live products for configuration drift, control weaknesses, and emerging transaction risks.
  • Use SQL to test transaction logic, including commissions, VAT, discounts, fee calculations, payment splits, reversals, refunds, and chargebacks.
  • Trace fund flows and assess the integrity of wallet sub-ledgers, reconciliations, settlement processes, and the General Ledger.
  • Review product changes, fee tables, routing rules, limits, and configurations to ensure they follow approved change-management procedures.
  • Assess third-party product and vendor risks, including SLA performance and dependencies within critical payment flows.
  • Lead post-incident reviews and root-cause analysis for product failures, tracking corrective actions through to closure.
  • Assess product compliance with applicable CBN regulations, PCI DSS, NDPR, and consumer protection requirements.
  • Prepare risk-rated audit reports and maintain product risk registers and control maturity updates.
  • Engage product and engineering teams during the design process to promote a control-by-design approach.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, or another relevant quantitative discipline.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in Product Audit, Systems Audit, Financial Data Analytics, Payment Operations, or a related function within fintech or financial services.
  • Hands-on knowledge of payment product architecture, wallet systems, and regulated payment flows.
  • Advanced SQL skills for data extraction, transaction analysis, and control testing.
  • Knowledge of payment systems, including wallets, card processing, direct debit, settlement, and reconciliation.
  • Basic understanding of APIs and system integrations.
  • Strong understanding of the end-to-end transaction lifecycle, including authorisation, posting, clearing, settlement, and exception handling.
  • Ability to analyse PRDs and process flows and translate product documentation into control requirements.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills, particularly in fee calculations, payment splits, and transaction integrity.
  • Experience identifying anomalies, outliers, and irregularities within large transaction datasets.
  • Knowledge of risk-based audit methodologies, IIA Standards, and the COSO framework.
  • Strong root-cause analysis, professional scepticism, stakeholder engagement, and report-writing skills.
  • Knowledge of CBN payment system regulations, PCI DSS, NDPR, and Nigerian consumer protection requirements.
  • Proficiency in SQL platforms such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MSSQL.
  • Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills.
  • Familiarity with Claude or other AI tools is an advantage.
  • Professional certifications such as CISA, CIA, or CFE are preferred. ACA or ACCA may be considered when combined with strong technical product and data analytics experience.
