Job Description

Moniepoint Incorporated is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer (Java) to join its remote engineering team in Nigeria. This role is ideal for an experienced backend developer who is passionate about building scalable systems, designing high-performance applications, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative financial technology solutions. The successful candidate will work with modern technologies including Java, Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, AWS, and Elasticsearch.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, QA engineers, and other developers to deliver high-quality software solutions.
  • Build and optimize RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed systems for performance and reliability.
  • Integrate third-party APIs and services while ensuring secure and fault-tolerant implementations.
  • Improve application performance through code optimization, automation, and system refactoring.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex backend and infrastructure issues.
  • Participate in code reviews, architectural planning, and technical discussions to promote engineering best practices.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for systems, processes, and development decisions.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in backend software engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.
  • Experience building scalable web services, APIs, and distributed applications.
  • Good understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and backend best practices.
  • Experience working with relational databases and ORM frameworks such as Hibernate.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Agile software development methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms such as AWS.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and Elasticsearch is an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of frontend technologies such as React or AngularJS is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, debugging, communication, and collaboration skills.
