Job Description
The Head, Legal and Compliance is a senior executive role responsible for leading the organization’s legal strategy and ensuring full regulatory compliance across all operations. The position provides strategic legal guidance to executive management and the board while strengthening governance frameworks, mitigating risk exposure, and maintaining high ethical standards in line with local and international regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all legal matters including contracts, disputes, corporate governance, and regulatory filings
- Provide strategic legal advisory support to executive leadership and the board
- Manage external counsel and oversee litigation strategy and outcomes
- Review, negotiate, and approve major agreements, partnerships, and corporate transactions
- Ensure compliance with applicable local and international laws and industry regulations
- Develop, implement, and monitor compliance programs, policies, and ethics frameworks
- Track regulatory changes and assess their impact on business operations
- Lead internal audits, investigations, and whistleblower processes
- Identify legal and regulatory risks and implement effective mitigation strategies
Requirements
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Master’s degree in Law (MSc or equivalent)
- Licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction
- 10–12 years of progressive legal experience, preferably within corporate or regulatory environments
- Strong knowledge of industry regulations and compliance frameworks
- Proven experience in contract negotiation and dispute resolution
- Demonstrated expertise in risk assessment and regulatory compliance
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and ethical decision-making skills
- Ability to manage crises and provide strategic legal direction under pressure
