Job Description

Gbenga Badejo and Co is recruiting an experienced Internal Control / Compliance Officer for a Non-Bank Financial Institution in Gbagada, Lagos. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, strengthening internal controls, monitoring operational risks, and maintaining adherence to applicable financial regulations. This role is ideal for a compliance professional with strong knowledge of AML/CFT requirements, KYC procedures, and regulatory reporting standards within the financial services sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review customer onboarding documents and credit files to ensure full KYC compliance before loan disbursement.
  • Monitor daily transactions, identify suspicious activities, and prepare Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) where necessary.
  • Serve as the liaison with regulatory authorities, including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), ensuring timely submission of required reports and regulatory returns.
  • Develop, review, and update compliance policies and procedures in line with regulatory changes and operational requirements.
  • Conduct periodic compliance and internal control audits across departments to identify risks, gaps, and areas for improvement.
  • Investigate compliance breaches, document findings, and recommend corrective actions or control measures.
  • Coordinate compliance awareness programs and training sessions for employees, particularly customer-facing teams.
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of risk management and internal control frameworks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting or a related discipline from a reputable institution.
  • Must be a Chartered Accountant.
  • Minimum of 4–5 years of experience in compliance, risk management, internal control, or audit within a financial institution, such as a lending company, microfinance bank, fintech company, or commercial bank.
  • Strong knowledge of AML/CFT regulations, KYC processes, and transaction monitoring practices.
  • Good understanding of CBN regulations, reporting obligations, and Nigerian financial regulatory standards.
  • Experience with credit operations and the loan lifecycle within a finance company will be an added advantage.
  • Excellent analytical, investigative, communication, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain high ethical and professional standards.
